May 2020 Comic Book Sales Charts and Figures

In May 2020, a total of 306 newsstand (post 1998) copies sold.

  • 43% of them sold at $10 and below.
  • 39% sold between $11 to $30.
  • 11% sold between $31 to under $100
  • 7% sold over $100

$10 and below: These newsstand comic issues command the same prices as their regular versions. These issues are non keys and hence do not command a premium over regular versions. In this category, Spider-Man and Batman sold the most in terms of copies.

$11 and $30: The newsstand editions of Batman vol 2 has been commanding a nice premium over their regular versions. They have been selling, on average, around $15-$20 in high grade conditions.

Another surprising series selling well in this range is the uncanny X-force series. These are all non keys but they command between $15-$20 on average.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars #1

Copies sold: 5
Average Sales: $200-$300

This book was real hot in May. The heat can be felt in the newsstand market as copies sold between $200 to $300 regardless of condition.

Only 1 sold copy is CGC 9.4. The remaining 4 copies range from vg+ to vf-. It seems for newsstand, any copy will do!

Average Sales:
$40 for lower grades, $100 for higher grades.

With Stargirl’s show starting up, it seems this book is finally picking up.

While the regular versions sold well, the newsstand have been selling for almost 50% premium.

Amazing Spiderman #607

Copies sold: 2
Average Sales: $70 for Fine

Beside first appearances, newsstand editions for well liked covers also sell.

Fine copies selling for $70 is 100% over what regular issues are selling for.

Hulk Vol 2 #1

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $300

Red Hulk is rumored for MCU and this book has been selling well for regular versions.

This lone sale of a 9.4 newsstand is a staggering 200% over regular CGC 9.4. FYI, a 9.8 copy is currently listed for $10,000 lol

Amazing Spiderman #546

Copies sold: 3
Average Sales: $35

With Jackpot movie news hitting the movie scene, copies of her first appearance has been selling.

Regular versions have been selling for $20-$30. This means the newsstand editions are commanding a 15-20% premium.

Vengeance #1

Copies sold: 3
Average Sales: $150

Vengeance #1 features the first appearance of Ms America, who seems to be getting hotter and hotter.

This newsstand version is slowly catching to the 1:10 variant.

It will be interesting to see a newsstand modern can rival a variant or if a 9.8 will pop up.

Star Wars Heir to Empire #1

Copies sold: 4
Average Sales: 9.8 for $700, $100 for raw near mint

This is Star Wars second entry into our list.

Regular versions sell for $50 while 9.8 for $400. This means the newsstand premium for this book is almost 100%.

Amazing Spiderman #606

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $100

The sister cover to #606, it is also selling well. As long as one pops up in reasonable price, it will sell.

#606 commands a 80-100% premium.

Batman Beyond #1

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $400

Batman Beyond #1 is another hot book that just keep on getting hotter without movie news. I think such books are great.

Regular 9.6 usually sells for $270-$300. This $400 newsstand sale is a 33% premium.

Black Widow: Pale Little Spider #1

Copies sold: 6
Average Sales: $2-$17

The Black Widow movie is causing a little heat for this book.

Currently, prices for the newsstand editions of this book is all over the place. It can go as low as a regular price edition but some copies have been selling well above.
