September 2020 (4th week) Comic Book Sales Charts and Figures

The last week of Septeber saw a total of 111 newsstand copies being sold. This marks the lowest units being sold this month, as the previous low was 116 copies in the 2nd week of September.

  • 51.8% of newsstand comics sold are sold at $10 and below prices. These include the usual hot selling titles such as Batman and Star Wars Republic.
  • 26.3% of newsstand sales are sold between $11 and $30. In this price category, Batman and related titles are still the best selling issues for this week. There is a sprinkle of X-Men and Spiderman issues as well.
  • 12% of newsstand sales are sold between $30 and $100. Amazing Spider-Man sold well in this category as it is commanding a higher and higher price for its newsstand issues. Surprisingly, Hulk sold well this week, especially Hulk Vol 2.
  • 9% of newsstand sales are sold above $100. 10 copies sold this week that are above $100. Some of the issues are the popular ones like Ultimate Fallout #4 and Star Wars Tales #24. Unfortunately these books did not sell at a high enough price to enter the charts this week.

Below are the top 10 newsstand sales for the week.

Thor God of Thunder #6

Copies sold: 2
Average Sales: $900 and $460

Thor God of Thunder #6 makes it debut with a big bang by snatching up the number one spot this week. It sold 2 copies, a CGC 9.0 for $900 and a raw fine copy for $460.

This issue features the first (Cameo?) appearance of Knull and has been heating up with Knull becoming more prominent in comics.

In terms of newsstand premium, it is about 400%.

Amazing Spider-Man #606

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $510

Amazing Spider-Man #606 return with its 4th entry in the charts. This is the highest sale so far due to the copy being sold being a 9.8

A normal 9.8 for this book will go for $250. This sale of $510 is double of that so it has a healthy premium of 100%.

Venom FlashPoint #1

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $192

Appearing for the 3rd time on the charts is Venom Flashpoint #1, which reprints the first appearance of Agent Venom.

The previous sale in 1st week of Sept saw 2 copies selling for $200 each. This sale of $192 closely matches that.

Since regular copies are selling for $100, this means the newsstand premium is around 100%.

Jedi Mace Windu One Shot

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $135

The first appearance of Asajj Ventress finally made its debut entry. This book was first talk about in the 4th week of July as a honorable mention.

This newsstand copy is a raw FNVF and sold for $135. This price, unfortunately is not that far off from what a regular will sell off. Hence, the newsstand premium is not that strong with this issue.

Amazing Spider-Man #611

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $101

The 4th Amazing Spider-Man in the charts this weeks is also a new entry. This issue features a very popular Skottie Young cover of Spider-Man and Deadpool.

This is a CGC 9.0 copy and it sold for $100. There was no sales data for a regular 9.0 but a 9.4 sold for $27.

If we made some assumptions, the newsstand premium for this sale can be in the range of 300-400%!

What if Venom Possessed Deadpool?

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $510

What if Venom Possessed Deadpool makes its entry into the charts for the 3rd time. This particular copy is around a raw 7.5 and sold for $500.

This is in line with the previous sales of $700 for a VFNM copy in the last week of July.

This sale manages to maintain the newsstand premium of 100-150%, which is still pretty good.

Amazing Spider-Man #601

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $406

Another Spider-Man book this week from ASM #601. This is the book’s 5th entry and is also another one of the Scott Campbell’s cover.

This copy is a 9.6 and sold for $410. In comparison, a regular 9.6 sells for $150. This represents a premium of 200%, which is higher than #606.

Amazing Spider-Man #569

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $139

The third Spider-Man book in the chart is Amazing Spider-Man #569. This is the first appearance of Anti-Venom.

This book made it debut last week and continued its selling streak with its 2nd chart entry this week.

This is a raw copy sale and went for $139, which is double for what a regular will sell for.

Hulk Vol 2, #92

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $130

Another new entry this week is from Hulk Vol 2, #92. This is the start of the Planet Hulk storyline used in Thor #3 and also contains some minor first appearances such as Calera and Mike.

This 9.6 CGC copy sold for $130. In contrast, a direct edition 9.8 only sells for $70. Hence, the newsstand premium for this book is pretty strong in the 150-200% range.

Daredevil Vol 2, #111

Copies sold: 1
Average Sales: $90

The final new entry this week comes from Daredevil Vol 2, #111. This issue contains the first appearance of Lady Bullseye, a recurring enemy for Daredevil.

This 7.5 raw copy sold for $90. In contrast, regular editions in NM condition sells for only $15.

This works out to be 500% in terms of newsstand premium, the highest premium this week on the charts.

  1. Dont sleep on that Mace Windu newsstand. That book was a low print run to begin with and I dont think the Star Wars market knows about newsstand as much. I see listings for some rare DarkHorse books sellers miss what they are. And Ventress is going to be a bigger character I think in the long run.
